Unexpected Love Of Fly Fishing

Unexpected Love Of Fly Fishing

I’ve been fishing since I was a kid. I was always really good at regular spin fishing, and I won tournaments all the time. I even entered some tournaments in my adult years and won some pretty awesome prizes. As you get older, the prizes get bigger.

My brother-in-law tried to get me to go fly fishing a few times, but I never had much interest. It didn’t look fun to me so I didn’t want to be bothered. There wasn’t really any other reason behind it. I preferred my old fashioned spin fishing. Deep down, it was probably that I was good at that, and I didn’t know if I’d be any good at fly fishing.

His 40th was coming up, and he wanted to take a fly fishing trip with a small group of guys. I didn’t really want to, but I felt obligated, so I finally gave in. I was not very excited.

I had to make plans to rent all of my equipment, as did 2 of the other guys. The experienced ones recommended a local place by where we were staying. Arrangements were made and deposits were paid. There was no going back now.

When the day of the trip arrived, I was glad to be getting away, but also dreading learning something new, and something that I didn’t care to learn either. I had to keep reminding myself that I was doing it for my brother-in-law and I had to stop being selfish.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised. I was having a real Green Eggs and Ham moment. It turned out that I really liked fly fishing after god knows how long of trying to resist even trying it.

I knew my brother in law was dying to say “I told you so”, but was trying so hard to resist it. I told him since it was his birthday he had full permission to let me have it. And so he did. Rightfully so.

I really had a great time, and I was very interested in learning more. My brother-in-law directed me to Trouts Fly Fishing which he told me had a ton of educational materials, and all the equipment I could ever need, if or when I decided to really invest in it.

Of course, I made the decision to go all in, and I’ve used Trouts Fly Fishing for anything and everything related to fly fishing. I’ve been really happy with them. I still spin fish sometimes too, but fly fishing is my main hobby now. I’m really thankful that my brother-in-law made me give it a try, I only wish that I’d said yes sooner.
